Ryan Klesko
Biography: Ryan Anthony Klesko... has been actively involved with the Padres Community Relations efforts and, in 2001, received the Chairman's Award, presented annually by the Padres Community Relations Department, to the player who best exemplifies the community spirit of John Moores and his family... during his five Padres seasons, Ryan has generously given his time and money to support numerous philanthropic endeavors... among the highlights of Klesko's work in the San Diego community: he has served as the club's spokesperson for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, hosting Make-A-Wish children for batting practice, a pregame ceremony and a ballgame each homestand... through his Klesko's Korner program, he has regularly provided Padres tickets to children and families facing cancer for the last four years... he has also been a leading supporter of the Padres Scholars program... graduated from Westminster (CA) High School in 1989... played for the U.S. Junior Olympic team in Australia... enjoys hunting, fishing and water sports... signed by scout Dean Jongewaard (Braves)... is signed with San Diego through 2006. 2005 Career Highlights: Klesko was experiencing a solid comeback season when neck and shoulder troubles after the All-Star break brought everything to a grinding halt. He still led the club in homers but only four of the 18 came after the break. He had his struggles defensively, and the Padres are planning to return him to first base in 2006, hoping it will reduce the possibility of injury and keep his bat booming for a full season.
